DS-C9148T-24IK9 Is Cisco MDS 9148T 32G 48 Port FC Switch
The next-generation Cisco MDS 9148T 32-Gbps 48-Port Fibre Channel Switch provides high-speed Fibre Channel connectivity for All-Flash arrays. This switch offers state-of-the-art analytics and telemetry capability built into its next-generation Application-Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) platform. This switch allows seamless transition to Fibre Channel Non-Volatile Memory Express (FC-NVMe) workloads whenever available without any hardware upgrade in the SAN. It empowers small, midsize, and large enterprises that are rapidly deploying cloud-scale applications using extremely dense virtualized servers, providing the benefits of greater bandwidth, scale, and consolidation. Some of the main benefits for a small-scale Storage Area Network (SAN) are automatic zoning, nonblocking forwarding, and smaller port groups of 16 ports. Benefits for a mid- to large-size SAN include higher scale for Fibre Channel control-plane functions, virtual SANs, Fabric Login (FLOGI), device alias and name server scale, 48 ports of 32-Gbps non-oversubscribed line-rate ports, bidirectional airflow, and a fixed-form FC-NVMe-ready SAN switch with enhanced Buffer-to-Buffer (B2B) credits connecting both storage and host ports and Fibre Channel link encryption. Large-scale SAN architectures built with SAN core directors can expand 32-Gbps connectivity to the server rack using these switches in either switch mode or Network Port Virtualization (NPV) mode. Additionally, the switch supports enhanced diagnostic features such as Inter-Switch Link (ISL) and Host-Bus-Adapter (HBA) diagnostics, read diagnostic parameter, link cable beacon,1 and advanced reliability features such as Forward Error Correction (FEC) with HBA ports.

High Performance and Flexibility at Low Cost
Up to 48 autosensing Fibre Channel ports are capable of speeds of 2, 4, 8, 16,and 32 Gbps, with 32 Gbps of dedicated bandwidth for each port. The base switch model comes with 12 ports enabled, and can be upgraded as needed with the 12-port Cisco MDS 9148T On-Demand Port Activation license to support configurations of 24, 36, or 48 enabled ports. Only the Cisco MDS 9148T scales from 12 to 48 high-performance Fibre Channel ports in a single 1RU form factor. The 16-Gbps MDS 9148T is the first generation of NVMe ready Fibre Channel 1RU switches1 When deployed as a N-Port virtualization (NPV) node or as an N-Port ID Virtualization (NPIV) core connecting legacy Fibre channel switches or multi-protocol Nexus NPV switches, it provides a flexible and scalable option for host connectivity.
Cisco MDS Switch DS-C9148T-24IK9
An extensive set of innovative and powerful security features and functions is available with the optional Cisco MDS 9000 Family Enterprise Package. It offers fabricwide, per-VSAN role-based Authentication, Authorization, and Accounting (AAA) services using RADIUS, Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP), Microsoft Active Directory (AD), and TACACS+. It also deploys VSAN fabric isolation, intelligent, port-level packet inspection, Fibre Channel Security Protocol (FC-SP) host-to-switch and switch-to-switch authentication, Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP), Secure Shell Version 2 (SSHv2), and Simple Network Management Protocol Version 3 (SNMPv3) implementing Advanced Encryption Standard (AES). Other security features include control-plane security, hardware-enforced zoning, broadcast zones, and management access. The Cisco MDS 9148T is FIPS 140-2 compliant as mandated by the U.S. federal government.
The Cisco MDS 9148T offers built-in storage network management and SAN plug-and-play capabilities. All features are available through a Command-Line Interface (CLI) or Cisco Prime DCNM for SAN Essentials Edition, a centralized management tool. Cisco DCNM task-based wizards simplify management of single or multiple switches and fabrics. For virtual infrastructure, it manages the entire path: from the virtual machine and switch to the physical storage. The Cisco MDS 9148T also supports PowerOn Auto Provisioning (POAP) to automate software image upgrades and configuration file installation on newly deployed switches. Additionally, it provides intelligent diagnostics, protocol decoding, network analysis tools, and Cisco Call Home for added reliability, faster problem resolution, and reduced service costs.
● Fully integrated SAN Analytics: This feature-rich switch also offers state-of-the-art data traffic analytics and telemetry capabilities that have been built into this next-generation hardware platform. This new state-of-the-art technology couples the next-generation port ASIC with a fully dedicated Network Processing Unit (NPU). Information is extracted by the port ASIC from passing line rate traffic and used by the NPU to calculate performance data on board the switch in real time. Using an industry-leading open telemetry format, the data can be streamed to any analytics visualization platform.
● Cisco Dynamic Ingress Rate Limiting (DIRL): MDS 9148T supports the dynamic ingress rate limiting feature. Using DIRL, the MDS SAN can automatically detect any symptoms of congestion and then dynamically rate limits the congested and slow-drain devices so that adverse effects are not spread to other devices. DIRL dynamically adapts the rate-limiting to suit the traffic profile of the congestion or slow-drain device.
● Capital Expenditures (CapEx) savings: The 64-Gbps ports allow users to deploy them with existing 32- or 16-Gbps transceivers providing investment protection, with an option to upgrade to 64-Gbps transceivers and adapters whenever needed.
A license can be ordered from Cisco Commerce just like any other Cisco product. The Smart Account of the end customer or the Smart holding account of the partner must be indicated when placing the order for the licenses. Once the order is placed and successfully processed, the licenses are digitally credited to the Smart Account or the Smart holding account.
Autozone eliminates manual zoning configuration for selective use cases. Today, a user manually creates zones, adds initiators and targets to the zones, and adds each zone to a zoneset. Autozone replaces these steps by a single command. The Cisco MDS 9000 32-Gbps fabric switches automatically detect an end-device type as an initiator or a target. All end-devices are zoned automatically, following the best-practices scheme of single-initiator-single-target zoning. Autozone needs to be invoked only once. Any new devices are automatically detected as initiators or targets and zoned appropriately. You do not have to access the switch to modify the zoning configuration when a new or modified storage assignment is required. The final configuration made by Autozone is the same as that obtained by a manual-zoning configuration. An advanced user can choose to refine the zoning further. The highlights of Autozone are described below:
● Autozone support is available on MDS 9132T, MDS 9148T and MDS 9396T from Cisco NX-OS 8.3(1) onwards
● Autozone is supported when the switch on which it is used is the only switch in the fabric
● Autozone is different from default zoning. In default zoning, initiator-to-initiator and target-to-target paths are also permitted. Autozone creates only single-initiator-single-target zones, to optimally utilize hardware resources
● Initially, Autozone is supported in VSAN 1
●A standalone storage area network (SAN) in small departmental storage environments
● A top-of- the- rack switch in medium-sized redundant fabrics
● An edge switch in enterprise data center core-edge topologies
